Step 2: Assets resave (assets)

Brings every content package to the 5.8 file format, so the engine no longer has to convert old data on every load.

Done automatically

  • Every /Game package saved with an engine older than 5.8 is loaded and saved again, in batches of 100.
  • Before each save, pending asynchronous loads are flushed. Some engine types finish their own upgrade in a deferred step after loading (for example Level Sequence actors move their sequence reference); saving before that completes would lose data. UEAPM always waits for it.

Reported for you

  • Packages with load errors. They are never saved, so nothing is lost; the report lists them as errors.
  • A version census (Notes): how many packages had which file version, and the version the engine writes now.

Rule tables

None. This step works from the Asset Registry.

Examples

  • A 4.27 Data Table such as /Game/Abilities/DataTables/StartingStats is loaded and resaved in the 5.8 format: report line Resave | /Game/... | resaved.
  • Notes line after the run: 873 packages (UE5 file version 1018: 873); current engine writes UE5 file version 1018.
