Step 6: Rendering and mobile (rendering)

Updates renderer settings and checks materials after the move to 5.8.

Done automatically

  • .ini rules of the rendering group: renamed and removed console variables and renderer settings.
  • Mobile rules only when the project targets mobile hardware (TargetedHardwareClass=Mobile): they write explicit values that keep Lumen, Lumen reflections and Virtual Shadow Maps off, so the project stays on the cheaper path even if settings are later reset from a 5.8 template.

Reported for you

  • Materials and material functions that lost expressions or engine functions when loaded in 5.8.
  • A Notes line with how many materials and functions were checked.

Rule tables

The rendering rules of config.json (32 rules), some with condition: mobile.

Examples

Before (4.27)After (5.8)
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasingmoved to r.AntiAliasingMethod (same values)
r.MobileMSAAremoved (re-select MSAA in Project Settings > Rendering > Mobile)
r.TessellationAdaptivePixelsPerTriangleremoved (hardware tessellation is gone in UE5)
mobile projectr.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=0, r.ReflectionMethod=2, r.Shadow.Virtual.Enable=0
